What a wrong guess tells you

FoodGuessr measures distance with the haversine formula and a mean Earth radius of 6,371 km, the figure used in standard geodesy. The compass is the initial bearing from the country you picked toward the answer. Both points sit inside the country, not on the border.

What is FoodGuessr?

FoodGuessr is a free daily browser game. You see a photograph of a dish, its ingredients, and a short description, then name the country it comes from. A day has 3 rounds and 5 guesses in each round.

How does FoodGuessr scoring work?

A correct first guess scores 5,000 points. Each extra guess removes 1,000 points. A wrong guess that landed close adds up to 600 points back, and a round never exceeds 5,000. Three perfect rounds total 15,000.

When does FoodGuessr reveal the dish name?

The name stays hidden until you miss twice. Ingredients and the description are visible from the start of the round.

What does the FoodGuessr compass mean?

After a wrong country, the compass points from that country's interior point toward the answer. Distance is the great-circle length between those two points, using an Earth radius of 6,371 km. Boiling is under 400 km, Very hot under 1,200 km, Hot under 2,500 km, Warm under 5,000 km, and Cold beyond that.
